The Worship Committee is excited to share that Immanuel Presbyterian Church will offer evening Vesper services. What is a Vesper Service, you might ask? Literally translated, it is “lamp-lighting time” in Latin, referring to the candles lit for this service when it was held in the early evening, by the early church. Not only is it held at a time of day that requires light from a source other than the sun, it often, but not always, focuses on the Psalms and Old Testament.
Here at Immanuel, they will be a time for reflection and providing time for all of us to be aware of our spirituality. It will be a time that we spend actively listening for God and being aware of God’s presence in our lives. It will be a time of quiet reflection, sometimes a time of using our hands, our thoughts, our minds to express our thoughts to God. There may be colored pencils involved, or clay, or other items not usually found in worship. But there will also be scripture, music, and traditional times of prayer.
